2high Launch Night!

Kristen Haynes and her group started the off with their beautiful music as the artists, invited industry professionals, Backbone friends and more filled the Turbine Platform.  We also had the playful presence of the Living Dolls as the costume loving performers!  Fraser Corfield, the Backbone Youth Arts Artistic Director, opened the night with background on the event, which was followed by the 2high Festival Manager, our very own Brooke Newall .

Noelene Galloway, the COO of the Brisbane Powerhouse , spoke to the Powerhouse's organisational and personal commitment to the 2high Festival. We truly appreciate the support that the venue and its staff has provided to the Coordinators and for Backbone Youth Arts.

The Hon. Rod Welford MP , the Minister for Education and Training and the Minister for the Arts, provided an insightful speech about the Brisbane arts scene and government's support for artistic development. Rob Welford and the Queensland Government are in full support of Backbone Youth Arts granting them triennial funding.

Cr. Geraldine Knapp , Councillor for The Gap Ward and the Chairman of the Families and Community Services Committee touched the audience with her observation that a "city is not a good city unless it is a creative city".

The Founder and MD of Starving Kids Records , Brett Wood, finished the presentations with an interesting account of how he became involved in the arts and the good service that Starving Kids Records and 2high Festival provide to the emerging music scene in Brisbane.

The Travelling So & So's finished the night off with their set - have a look out for them and Claire Whiting who will be performing at the Queen St Mall on October 31!  They'll be playing between 5 to 7pm near the Myer Centre and Allans Music.

Overall, it was a great night!  Thank you to the Marketing Grrls for their hard work, Music for organising the bands and Steph at the office. We suited up, dressed up or frocked up (and of course, rocked up!).  We want to give EVERYONE involved a huge thank you and we can't wait to meet you all again during the festival!
